Una single fin diseñada por el hombre, el mito, la leyenda… Ese es Dale Velzy, un verdadero pionero de la industria del surf. La quilla Classic de Velzy es exactamente eso... Un clásico de verdad, con características de diseño que invitan a líneas largas y estiradas y a giros suaves. El legado de Velzy se remonta a mediados de los 30, cuando empezó a surfear y a shapear tablas de balsa/redwood para él y para sus amigos debajo del Hermosa Beach Pier. Considerado el primer surfista en hacer un hang ten y también el primer shaper comercial del mundo, Velzy es célebre —entre otras muchas cosas— por sus aportaciones al diseño moderno de longboard. La Velzy Classic es una quilla de área mínima con una buena cantidad de barrido y una longitud de base de fiar. Su poca superficie hace que se sienta rápida, mientras que su rake pronunciado y su perfil bajo permiten giros más largos y estirados. Relativamente rígida y con un foil más completo, Velzy diseñó esta quilla en un principio para combinarla con tablas de fondo en Vee, de forma que la proyección viniera de los cantos y el Vee direccional de tu tabla. Sin embargo, se ha demostrado que la Velzy Classic funciona bastante bien en muchos tipos de tabla, ya que la propia quilla aporta mucho rebote, proyección hacia delante y una sensación bastante viva bajo los pies que engancha un poco. ¡Carvea profundo desde el bottom y lo verás! Drivey and responsive — it really brings the board to life, especially on speed shapes and narrower-tailed mid-lengths.
Produces smooth turns and draws long lines — suited to glider-type shapes.
This fin draws arcs — speed comes from holding the line through turns and projecting cleanly out. Stiff and planted rather than springy: if you want smooth, drawn-out trim with a longer arc on a Vee bottom or rail-driven shape, this is the call.

Dale Velzy designed this fin in the 1960s to work with Vee bottom templates: a wide base supplies forward projection while minimal area keeps the fin from over-gripping, with a stiff foil throughout and no progressive flex. It is made by True Ames in four sizes — 8.5", 9.0", 9.5", and 10.0" — with 8.5"–9.0" suiting mid-lengths in the 8'–9' range and 9.5"–10.0" suiting bigger boards, logs, and mini gliders. It pairs with V-bottom boards, speed shapes, and other boards that trim off the rail.
