La pinna
Lo Stage-6 nasce in origine dai progetti da windsurf di George Greenough, che ne ha sostenuto lo straordinario potenziale anche nel mondo del surf. Per questo design e per molti altri, il mondo del surf ha un debito eterno con George e con le sue innovazioni sulla resa in onda che hanno aperto gli anni '60.
Con questa pinna il tema è la velocità. Nata per essere usata sulle tavole da windsurf, la “stiff leg” dello Stage-6 aiuta a tagliare le alghe e la superficie increspata dell'acqua, mentre la sua “active paddle” (a volte chiamata paddle fin) aiuta la tavola a restare ancorata, cosa particolarmente importante quando ci si inclina di molto ad alta velocità. Con lo Stage-6 Greenough ha ridefinito le possibilità di resa di una single fin: la superficie è la stessa delle altre pinne, ma distribuita in un modo tutto suo.
Portando più superficie in profondità nell'acqua “pulita”, la sensazione è solida e allo stesso tempo molto manovrabile. Unisci tutto questo all'arte di cavalcare l'onda e ottieni un design che offre una stabilità notevole e una tenuta incredibile nei carve di rail completi. Gli Stage 6 di misura grande sono fra le poche pinne per cui True Ames abbia mai dichiarato che il nose riding riesce bene quanto le curve. Per quanto possa sembrare sorprendente a vedersi, questa pinna ha tanto drive e tanta versatilità!

Questa pinna surfa un po' più piccola rispetto alle misure di pinna convenzionali. Per questo True Ames consiglia di salire di una misura rispetto alla tua pinna abituale. Per esempio, se di solito usi una 9" , prendi la 9.75"

It pushes more surface area deeper into clean water for a feel that is solid yet highly maneuverable, with strong hold through full rail carves. It rides smaller than its measurement, so size up a full inch.
Our take
This fin wants to be turned from the tail: put it on a flat-rocker mid-length, an edge board, or a 2+1 performance board surfed off the back foot, and size up an inch over your usual single. There is real spring once you learn its load-and-rebound timing, but it is not the pick for hulls, logs, or anything ridden from a forward stance.

The Stage-6 is a George Greenough-designed single fin made by True Ames, developed from Greenough's windsurfing work, with a stiff base leg and a flexible paddle tip. Rather than a tall upright outline, the design places more surface area deeper in the water. It is stocked in a wide size run of 5", 5.5", 7.25", 8", 9", and 9.75", and True Ames advises sizing up a full inch over a conventional single fin. It is intended for flat-rocker mid-lengths, single-fin edge boards, and 2+1 performance boards.

Perché il Volan?
Volan is a woven fiberglass cloth laid by hand and finished with a resin that cures to a warm amber tint. It flexes differently than solid fiberglass — more spring, more life, more feel through turns. Where solid glass is stiff and direct, volan breathes with the wave.
The hand-laid process means each fin has subtle texture and character. It's heavier, which adds momentum through flat sections. Surfers who ride volan describe it as "warmer" — the fin does more of the work, trimming and holding without demanding constant input.
