La pinna
La CI Channel Islands Tri Large è il set a tre pinne di Al Merrick a grande superficie — rake elevato, tanta superficie — in fibra di vetro piena per box FCS.
Un set da tre in fibra di vetro piena, compatibile FCS, in smoke o blu. Tutte e tre le pinne hanno la stessa misura, e il template risale alle pinne laminate che True Ames ha fatto per quasi tutte le tavole Channel Islands per tutti gli anni '80 e i primi anni '90. Rake elevato e tanta superficie ovunque: favorisce i surfisti più grossi e quelli potenti, e dà il suo meglio quando le onde hanno un po' di dimensione e un po' di spinta dietro.
Come si sente
È sulla superficie che questo set gioca. Più pinna in acqua vuol dire più tenuta: la tavola resta dentro una curva ampia sotto carico pesante senza che la coda molli, e tiene la linea su una parete veloce invece di scivolarci sopra. Il rake elevato allunga quelle curve. Quello che costa è la manovrabilità — la coda non gira in fretta, e nelle onde deboli tutta quella superficie si legge come resistenza.
A chi è adatto
I surfisti più pesanti, e chiunque si appoggi forte su un rail, che surfano thruster in onde consistenti e potenti. Non è il set per una giornata piccola o per una tavola pensata per essere sciolta. Il set medium è lo stesso template con meno superficie per surfisti di corporatura media; il set small toglie superficie alla pinna posteriore per liberare la coda.

Our take
The thruster set for a heavier or more powerful surfer who loads the fin in waves with real push -- the solid glass stiffens under hard drive and holds where lighter sets wash out. Lighter surfers or smaller, weaker waves call for the CI Tri Small or the softer Hexcore build instead.
ALTRO SU QUESTA PINNA
The CI Tri Large is a three-fin thruster set designed with the Channel Islands team and foiled by True Ames, here in solid fiberglass with FCS-compatible tabs. The template carries a CI-inspired foil with moderate rake, descending from the thruster sets Chuck Ames foiled for Channel Islands through the high-performance shortboard era. The same large template is also offered in Hexcore construction, and the set comes in a small size. It is sized for heavier surfers on shortboards.
