La pinna
La CI Channel Islands Tri Small abbina pinne laterali a superficie piena e rake elevato a una pinna posteriore più piccola che scioglie la coda — il template di Al Merrick in Hexcore per box Futures.
Un set da tre in Hexcore, compatibile Futures, in tre colori. Le due pinne laterali hanno rake elevato e volume pieno; la pinna posteriore è più bassa e più piccola delle laterali, e quella differenza è il senso del set. L'Hexcore è la costruzione ultraleggera, qui costruita per dare drive con del flex dentro. Il template vuole onde con un po' di potenza lungo la linea più che una giornata molle e senza forma.
Come si sente
Pinne laterali a superficie piena con rake elevato danno tenuta al rail e una curva lunga e disegnata — il drive arriva da davanti. Togliere altezza e superficie alla pinna posteriore elimina quello che altrimenti ancorerebbe la coda, così la parte posteriore della tavola rilascia prima e la curva finisce più corta. L'insieme tiene comunque la linea alla velocità, ma gira quando glielo chiedi invece di tirare dritto su tutto.
A chi è adatto
Le thruster nelle onde vive e con linea, surfate da chi vuole la coda abbastanza libera da chiudere di scatto senza rinunciare al drive in uscita dal bottom. Chi pesa meno, o chi trova i set medium e large troppo bloccati. Non è il set per le onde deboli, dove non c'è abbastanza spinta per caricare le pinne laterali.

Our take
Run this small Hexcore set on a Futures-boxed shortboard if you're a lighter surfer or mostly ride smaller, weaker waves and want a loose, responsive tail that turns quick. If you're heavier or surf powerful waves and need locked-in hold, step up to the CI Tri Large instead.
ALTRO SU QUESTA PINNA
Three-fin thruster set designed with the Channel Islands team and foiled by True Ames, in the small size with Hexcore construction and a single-tab Futures-compatible base. Hexcore uses hexagonal coremat to displace glass and resin, running about 25% lighter than solid fiberglass with slightly softer flex. The template was refined by Chuck Ames over decades of foiling thruster sets for Channel Islands, and the same small Hexcore set is also offered with an FCS base.
