Die Greenough High Speed glänzt genau da, wo ihr Name es verspricht: bei hohem Tempo. Sie ist vielleicht das reinste Beispiel für George Greenoughs revolutionäre High-Aspect-Ratio-Designs; ähnlich wie Flugzeugtragflächen bündelt ihre schlanke Form jede Menge Kraft und erzeugt Auftrieb bei sehr geringem Widerstand. Längere Pointbreak-Wellen sind die ideale Bühne, um ihr volles Potenzial zu erleben. Greenough steht hinter einer fortlaufenden Reihe von Innovationen im Wellenreiten, denen weithin zugeschrieben wird, den Weg vom traditionellen Longboarden zum Performance-Surfen in der Pocket geebnet zu haben. Ursprünglich entwarf er die High Speed für seine „Edge“-Boards, die der renommierte Shaper Marc Andreini so beschrieben hat: „zwei Surfboards in einem – ein schmales konkaves Tow-Board mit harten Kanten von Nose bis Tail, geshaped unter einem Displacement Hull mit vollen, angehobenen Rails.“ Wie Greenoughs Edge-Boards funktioniert auch seine High-Speed-Finne in allen Bedingungen und spielt ihre Stärken in kraftvollem Surf aus. Ganz gleich, was Greenough ursprünglich vorhatte: Diese Finne hat sich an vielen Boardtypen bewährt – von Mid-Lengths bis Glidern und allem dazwischen. Wir bauen diese Finne ausschließlich in Volan, weil ihr High-Aspect-Ratio-Design das stärkste und dickste Gewebe verlangt. Versteh uns nicht falsch – bei relativ wenig Fläche wird die Finne flexen. Aber die strukturelle Integrität des Volan erzeugt Kraft und Drive und ermöglicht damit optimale Performance. Unsere Volan-Finnen sind mit präzisen Foils und passendem Flex feinabgestimmt. Mit viel Hingabe in unserer Fabrik in Santa Barbara, Kalifornien gefertigt, durchlaufen sie die strengste Qualitätskontrolle. Unsere Volan-Lagen werden sorgfältig von Hand gelegt und templatiert, für optimale Faserausrichtung und hohe Festigkeit – wobei der Flex eher aus dem Körper kommt als nur aus der Spitze. Das erhöht Speed und Projektion aus dem Bottom Turn und durch die Turns. High Aspect Ratio: Die schlanke Form erzeugt Kraft und Auftrieb bei minimalem Widerstand. Passt zu vielen Boardtypen, von Mid-Lengths bis Glidern und allem dazwischen. Die Volan-Fiberglass-Konstruktion erzeugt Performance-Flex.

Warum Volan?
Volan is a woven fiberglass cloth laid by hand and finished with a resin that cures to a warm amber tint. It flexes differently than solid fiberglass — more spring, more life, more feel through turns. Where solid glass is stiff and direct, volan breathes with the wave.
The hand-laid process means each fin has subtle texture and character. It's heavier, which adds momentum through flat sections. Surfers who ride volan describe it as "warmer" — the fin does more of the work, trimming and holding without demanding constant input.

The panels are laid so the flex comes from the body and trunk rather than only the tip, which enhances speed and projection off the bottom and through turns. It springs and accelerates rather than plants and holds.
Fast down the line, though the board overpowered the fin in a Larmo glider. Drop it in a board not built for it and it can feel floppy with little hold.
A specialist, not an all-rounder: put it on a speed-oriented single fin board or glider for long, clean point waves, where the lift and low drag pay off. If you want one fin that behaves on any board you own, the Greenough 4A is the safer pick.

A slender, high-aspect single fin from the George Greenough line, made by True Ames exclusively in Volan glass because the thin profile requires the strongest, thickest weave; the panels are laid so flex comes from the body and trunk rather than only the tip. It comes in five sizes: 8.2, 8.5, 8.9, 9.25 and 9.7 inches. It is intended for purpose-built speed boards, gliders and tuned mid-lengths on long, drawn-out waves.
