McTavish hat dieses Template auf die Bluebird gesetzt, seine Single Fin von 1970, und True Ames baut sie bis heute: 7.6" für eine Standard-Single-Fin- oder Longboard-Box, in Solid Fiberglass. Es ist ein Umriss mit Rake, auf Drive ausgelegt, statt einer aufrechten Pivot-Finne – die Kurve trägt Fläche nach hinten hinter die Base, und genau daher kommt der Halt durch einen langen Turn; die Mischung aus Kurve und Fläche ist der ganze Grund, warum das Template das Board überdauert hat, für das es gezeichnet wurde.
Was das bedeutet
Rake und ein voller Umriss geben Drive und einen langen, gezogenen Turn. Eine solche Finne belohnt es, wenn du dich im Bottom Turn in sie hineinlehnst, statt über das Tail zu pivotieren: Sie hält bei Speed gut genug, dass das Board über das Rail gesurft werden kann – und dafür ist eine Performance-Single-Fin da, damals wie heute.
Für wen sie passt
Performance-Single-Fins und Mid-Lengths ab etwa 7' aufwärts – Boards, die eher mit Turns im Sinn gefahren werden als für Zeit auf der Nose. Willst du eine längere, aufrechtere Finne fürs progressive Longboarden, ist das stattdessen die Involvement.

Rigid and powerful, built for high-speed point surfing and down-the-line flow — the smaller, neutral design encourages the board to roll onto either rail, allowing the board's straighter template to become the primary driving force.
Fanning can't quite wrench the Bluebird into turns the way he can with his DHD thrusters, but he beautifully navigates the board through some proper frontside tubes.
Fifty years of getting out of the way: a raked, driving single built to amplify what the board's template already does, not impose its own agenda. If your board was built for Lennox-style down-the-line surfing, this is the fin that completes it.
Bob McTavish drew the Bluebird fin in the early 1970s for his Bluebird single-fin board, developed through daily surfing at Lennox Point after he relocated to Byron Bay. It is a swept single-fin template with pronounced rake, manufactured today by True Ames in Santa Barbara to McTavish's original template in limited quantities. It comes in one size, 7.6", suiting single-fin mid-lengths and performance eggs in the 6'6"–7'6" range.
