More height and base mean more of the fin engages when the board is on rail, and the foil delivers noticeably more hold and release than the smaller sizes carry.
Run these on a performance log or big board in steep, overhead surf where you want maximum rail authority and a driving, aggressive 2+1 feel. If you mostly surf clean, small waves or want the single-fin character left mostly intact, drop to the 3.7 or 3.25 instead.

The True Ames Side Bite 4.0 is a 4.0 inch side bite pair in FCS-compatible Hexcore construction, sold as a pair, one of the larger sizes in the range behind only the 4.35. Hexcore construction is lighter than solid fiberglass while keeping the template's stiffness. The pair is intended for 2+1 setups on longboards and bigger boards, paired with a center fin sized down to around 6.5 to 7 inches.
