Die CI Channel Islands Tri Small kombiniert Seitenfinnen mit voller Fläche und viel Rake mit einer kleineren Hinterfinne, die das Tail lockerer macht – Al Merricks Template in Hexcore für FCS-Boxen.
Ein Dreierset in Hexcore, FCS kompatibel, in drei Farben. Die beiden Seitenfinnen haben viel Rake und volles Volumen; die Hinterfinne ist kürzer und kleiner als die Seiten, und dieser Unterschied ist der Sinn des Sets. Hexcore ist die ultraleichte Konstruktion, hier auf Drive mit Flex darin gebaut. Das Template will Wellen mit etwas Kraft down the line und keinen weichen, formlosen Tag.
Was das bedeutet
Seitenfinnen mit voller Fläche und viel Rake geben dem Rail Halt und einen langen, gezogenen Turn – der Drive kommt von vorn. Der Hinterfinne Höhe und Fläche zu nehmen, nimmt weg, was das Tail sonst verankern würde, sodass das Heck des Boards früher löst und der Turn kürzer endet. Die Kombination hält bei Speed immer noch eine Linie, kommt aber herum, wenn du es verlangst, statt durch alles hindurchzuspuren.
Für wen es passt
Thruster in kraftvollen Wellen mit Zug down the line, gefahren von Surfern, die das Tail frei genug wollen, um abzureißen, ohne Drive aus dem Bottom Turn aufzugeben. Leichtere Fahrer, oder alle, denen die mittleren und großen Sets zu festgefahren sind. Nicht das Set für kraftlose Wellen, wo zu wenig Schub da ist, um die Seitenfinnen aufzuladen.

Our take
Run the small Hexcore set on a shortboard if you're a lighter surfer or mostly surf smaller, weaker waves and want a loose, responsive tail that turns quick. If you're heavier or surf powerful waves and need more hold, the large set is the call — this one would feel free where you want locked-in drive.

The CI Tri Small is a three-fin thruster set designed with the Channel Islands team and foiled by True Ames, based on the template Chuck Ames developed across decades of foiling thruster sets for Channel Islands. This version is the small size in Hexcore construction with FCS-compatible tabs; Hexcore displaces glass and resin with hexagonal coremat, running about 25% lighter than solid fiberglass with slightly softer flex. A Futures-compatible version of the same small Hexcore set is also made.
