A twinzer runs four fins, but not as a quad: each main fin gets a small canard set just ahead of and outside it. The canard sheds a vortex over the main fin, which lets the main fin hold at a steeper angle than it otherwise would. The result is twin-fin speed and looseness with more hold than a twin has any right to.
The Pavel canards are set relatively upright, which favours hold over release — the twinzer to pick if the reason you want canards is that your twin lets go too early.

It pairs a high-aspect rear twin with a small, upright front canard, both running flat inside foils, with the canard positioned to feed clean flow into the rear fin. True Ames reports the design has been tested on boards from 5'5" micro-wing fishes to 9'-plus whale fish, and it requires a board with twinzer box placement.
