Timmy Patterson's thruster set in solid fiberglass, Futures compatible.
Timmy Patterson's thruster set in solid fiberglass, Futures compatible.
Patterson's shortboard thruster template: base and height close to equal, moderate rake, and no strong bias toward either drive or pivot. A default thruster in the useful sense — it does not need to suit your surfing specifically to work.
Solid fiberglass is the stiffer, heavier of the two constructions — less flex, more direct drive. Against the Hexcore version of the same template, this is the stiffer, more direct option.

An all-around shortboard fin that excels in the ripable waves of Trestles — enough drive off the bottom for speed, enough hold for a longer turn, without locking you into one wave type.
Put it on a performance shortboard you ride from waist-high to overhead and want predictable, balanced drive and hold from — it drives off the bottom, holds through a carve, and still comes around off the top. If you want a livelier, more release-oriented top turn the True Ames Thruster is the other direction, and on a twin or fish this is not the set.
The Timmy Patterson Tri is a three-fin thruster set designed by San Clemente shaper Timmy Patterson and made by True Ames in Futures-compatible solid fiberglass. The template runs a close base-to-height ratio with moderate rake. It is intended for performance shortboards across a range of wave types.
Runs a flat inside foil tuned for controlled, predictable release, where the Patterson set leans a touch more toward drive and connection through the turn.
The looser, skatier direction if your board is a twin or fish.
