La dérive

Vendue en dérive unique en fibre de verre pleine pour un boîtier de longboard standard, en neuf tailles de 6.5" à 10.5" et dans une longue liste de coloris. Elle est le fonds de commerce de True Ames depuis plus de 40 ans et reste le design de dérive unique le plus populaire qui existe, parce que son équilibre est neutre : une base pleine pour la relance, un foil 50/50, et une pointe qui s'effile et fléchit plutôt qu'elle n'accroche. Longboards, mid-lengths, hulls, gliders et shortboards montés en 2+1 la reçoivent tous.
Ce que cela donne
La base pleine est la source de la relance — appuyez sur le pied arrière et la planche part. Au-dessus, la surface se réduit vers la pointe, et la pointe fléchit sous la charge : la dérive lâche en haut du virage au lieu de plaquer le tail. C'est tout le tour de force : elle tient quand il le faut et relâche au bon moment, sans être réglée pour l'un ni pour l'autre. Rien chez elle n'est exagéré, et c'est pour cela qu'elle finit sur autant de planches.

À peu près tout ce qui a un boîtier central — un log, un mid-length, un hull, un glider, ou un shortboard monté en 2+1. La vraie décision est la taille, pas le template : les grandes tailles pour les longboards et plus d'accroche, les plus petites pour les shortboards et les mid-lengths et un tail plus libre.

Our take
The right fin for most mid-lengths, eggs, and any single-fin log where carving matters more than parking on the nose — the template you end up measuring every other single against. It wakes a board up: real drive off the bottom, a long held arc through the turn, then a clean release. Go volan for flex through the whole fin on a heavier board, and go 4C instead if your priority is noseriding and tight pivots.

The Greenough 4A is a single fin designed by George Greenough, made by True Ames, with a full base, long swept rake, tapering tip with moderate flex, and a symmetrical foil. Greenough drew the outline from the tails of tuna and dolphins. It comes in sizes from 6.5" to 10.5": 6.5"-8.5" for shortboard single fins and 2+1 boards, 7.5"-9" for speed shapes and mid-lengths, and 9"-10.5" for single-fin longboards. A volan version is also offered, which carries flex deeper through the body of the fin.

Pourquoi le Volan ?
Volan is a woven fiberglass cloth laid by hand and finished with a resin that cures to a warm amber tint. It flexes differently than solid fiberglass — more spring, more life, more feel through turns. Where solid glass is stiff and direct, volan breathes with the wave.
The hand-laid process means each fin has subtle texture and character. It's heavier, which adds momentum through flat sections. Surfers who ride volan describe it as "warmer" — the fin does more of the work, trimming and holding without demanding constant input.
