La pinna
La Thicklizzy di Ryan Lovelace — un single fin a base larga con una drop tip stretta e flessibile, per mid-length, mini glider e 2+1.
Fibra di vetro piena, in smoke e royal blue, in cinque altezze da 7" fino a 9.0", su un foil 50/50. Lovelace l'ha basata sulla sua pinna v.Bowls, puntando a un approccio più leggero: “La pinna Lizzy ha tanta base, ma una punta stretta e flessibile. Si adatta bene ai mini glider e a ogni tipo di single fin... È meno assetata di drive e di potenza rispetto alla robusta v.Bowls, e sta bene sia sotto una pressione decisa sia lasciata scorrere con facilità.” Tanta base, rake importante e una punta abbastanza stretta da flettere.
Come si sente
La base è il drive: una radice larga si carica in uscita dal bottom e proietta, ed è quello che serve a una mid-length più pesante per mettersi in moto. La drop tip è la valvola di sfogo — stretta e flessibile, cede sotto pressione invece di bloccare la tavola nell'arco che l'outline disegnerebbe altrimenti. Il rake allunga la curva. Spingi forte e tiene; molla un po' e scorre via senza chiedere niente.
A chi è adatta
Mid-length, mini glider e longboard, come pinna singola o come centrale di un 2+1. È adatta a chi vuole drive e tenuta senza la sensazione rigida e piantata di un template pesante da noserider — e a chiunque abbia trovato nella v.Bowls più pinna di quanta ne servisse alla tavola.

He based the ThickLizzy on his v.Bowls template but drew it for a lighter touch — less drive-and-power-hungry than the beefy v.Bowls, rewarding being grooved easily as much as being stomped.

Plenty of base feeding a narrow, flexy tip, so it drives down the line but releases cleanly out of bottom turns.
Our take
Pick it for a mid-length or mini glider when you want trim speed with a flexy, forgiving release — it grooves easily in everyday surf but comes alive when you stand on it. If your board feels dead and wants more push, go to the v.Bowls; if you want a looser tail-pivot feel, the McCallum Single.

The ThickLizzy is Ryan Lovelace's mid-length single fin, made by True Ames and built around his Thick Lizzy board model. The template derives from his v.Bowls design, with a wide base and a thin, flexible tip. It comes in 7", 7.5", 8", 8.5", and 9" sizes and works as a pure single fin or as the center of a 2+1 setup, pairing with the Lovelace Side Runners or Side Bites.
