Patterson fa lo shaper per il surf ad alte prestazioni da abbastanza tempo perché il suo template di pinna sia praticamente una dichiarazione su cosa deve fare un thruster da shortboard: tenere sotto carico, rilasciare quando il carico va via, e non sorprenderti nel mezzo.
La geometria
Base e altezza sono quasi uguali, con rake moderato. È una combinazione volutamente equilibrata: non si specializza né nel drive né nel pivot, ed è questo che ne fa una scelta di default più che una decisione su cui devi essere sicuro.
Costruzione
La costruzione Hexcore è più leggera della fibra piena e flette di più, e questo si traduce in una pinna più viva e più scattante.

The set you reach for when you want drive off the bottom and hold through a turn in good waves rather than a loose, skatey feel; it stays connected when the wave stands up. If you want a livelier, more release-oriented top turn, look to a flatter-foiled thruster instead.
