If you've browsed the fin rack at Pemulis and noticed the Wild Things name, you've only seen the surface. Wild Things Gallery isn't just another fin brand - it's a warehouse-born cultural project out of Australia that blends board building, fin development, art, music, and film into something that feels more like a scene than a company.

That's exactly why we carry them. At Pemulis, we're drawn to brands that operate on conviction rather than convention - rider-owned, small-batch, built around craft and community. Wild Things fits.

The warehouse origins: Sydney 2012-2017

Wild Things started in 2012 in a warehouse at 18B/259 Condamine Street in Sydney's Manly Vale. Andy Findlay - former Brand Director for Analog and Gravis in Australia - had been distributing Gato Heroi boards on the side for years. Together with business partner Jessamyn Jean, he turned a half-formed idea into reality: a shaping bay for Gato Heroi with a small showroom attached.

But the space quickly outgrew that single purpose. Fashion designers, photographers, hair stylists, and artists moved in. The warehouse became an underground music venue, hosting bands like The Growlers, Allah Las, Skeggs, The Babe Rainbow, and Ocean Alley. What started as a board-building operation became a legitimate creative hub.

Then in 2017, the warehouse was demolished. Wild Things relocated to Byron Bay - specifically 1/93 Centennial Circuit in the Arts and Industrial Estate - where it operates today on Bundjalung country.

The Gato Heroi connection

Wild Things isn't just a Gato Heroi retailer. It's the official Australian manufacturer and distributor for the California-based surfboard brand. That means Gato Heroi boards come from two places: Robin Kegel (RK) in Ojai, California, and Wild Things in Byron Bay.

The distinction matters. RK-signed boards from California feature his newest templates and carry premium pricing. Wild Things-shaped boards use Robin's recent design iterations at slightly lower prices. Both are legitimate Gato Heroi surfboards - just different points in the template evolution.

We stock both at Pemulis. If you're in San Francisco looking to buy Gato Heroi without the international shipping headache, we're one of your options.

The fin team

Wild Things' fin program is driven by a tight crew of Australia's most creative free surfers - not just as endorsers, but as active participants in design and testing.

  • Creed McTaggart - Signature TT fins tested for 18+ months across Indonesia, South Africa, and Australia.
  • Chippa Wilson - Amid hybrid keel-upright template, plus the Chippa Drive/Drift thrusters.
  • Jaleesa Vincent - Her Doll Fins took 1.5 years to develop - optimized for finners and airs.
  • Kai Ellice-Flint - 2025 WSL Longboard World Champion. Instrumental in developing Wild Things' single fin range.
  • Joel and Kye Fitzgerald - Decades of 2+1 expertise shaped the Fitz fin line.
  • Ozzie Wright - Legendary free surfer, artist, and Goons of Doom frontman.

What we carry at Pemulis

We're a Wild Things US stockist, shipping from San Francisco.

Single fins

The Speed Fin is Wild Things' all-rounder - balanced, versatile, and ideal for critical surfing in the pocket. Pick your height based on board length and tail width.

Twin fins

For classic fish energy, start with the Volan Keels. For something more responsive, the Pivot Twins are built for tighter arcs. The Scorpion sits in between.

2+1 and side bites

The Fitzgerald brothers developed these templates through decades of 2+1 experimentation. Start with a Fitz Volan center fin, then add side bites based on how much hold you want.

Thrusters

The Chippa Wilson signature thrusters balance lightweight honeycomb construction with reliable performance across conditions.

Boardshorts

Wild Things doesn't separate hardware from lifestyle. The surf shorts come from the same warehouse that produces the fins.
