「Dewey Weber Hatchet」は、象徴的なサーファーであり、シェイパー、実業家でもあった Dewey Weber 本人が設計したフィンです。Yater Spoon と同じく、「D-fin」から「曲がるフィン」への移行期を示す一本です。1965年に設計された当初のテンプレートは、リーディングエッジからティップまで 18" あり、「Turn Fin」と呼ばれていました。のちに「Hatchet Fin」という通称が定着します。
Dewey は「International Surfing Hall of Fame」の最初の殿堂入り者のひとりであるだけでなく、そのシェイプの技術によって、サーフ業界の一大勢力となる「Dewey Weber Surfboards」を創業しました。50年代から60年代、大柄な男たちと、さらに大きなボードのなかにあって小柄だった Dewey は、素早い足さばきと、ボードの重さを利用して、その体格からは想像しにくいほど強く速く回す力で知られていました。それを支えたのが、操作性をもたらした「Hatchet」フィンです。

Large surface area for serious nose hold, with a big rake and a swept-back trailing edge with relief that let it turn more willingly than a stiff old D-fin.
Put the 10.0" on a traditional log under 9'6" or under a lighter surfer, and the 10.75" on a bigger, heavier log, when you want planted, deliberate nose time. It turns from the tail in slow, drawn-out arcs -- if you want a looser noseride or a springy flex fin, this is the wrong tool.

The Dewey Weber Hatchet is a large-area pivot fin descended from Weber's 1965 Turn Fin, a transition-era template. The original measured 18 inches; True Ames manufactures it in 10.0" and 10.75" sizes for traditional longboards. The design pairs a broad outline and big rake with a swept-back trailing edge and relief cut into it, and it is a low-flex fin intended for noseriding logs.
