マリブのレジェンド Greg Liddle が設計した L-Flex フィンは、もともと彼が 1968 年から先駆けて世に出し、名を知られることになった「modified displacement hull」のサーフボードと組み合わせるためのものでした。このサーフボードのデザインは船体と同じ流体力学の原理を借りたもので、ボトムがコンベックス形状になっており、乗り手はより前寄りでトリムし、パワーの少ない波でもプレーニングに入ることができます。そして、しっかりとしたフレックスを持つ、相性のよいフィンを必要とします。そこで登場するのが L-Flex です。
登場以来、このフィンはさまざまな波乗り道具に使える選択肢として広く親しまれてきました。特に、加速、レールを使ったフルカーブ、そして滑らかなつなぎを狙って設計されたボードとよく合います。L-Flex はダウン・ザ・ラインでの伸びと、ターン中の素直な反応をもたらし、ボードに生き生きとした感触を与えます。

True Ames は Volan のフィンを、アウトラインと同じくらいフレックスを軸につくっています。カリフォルニア州サンタバーバラの True Ames 製。Volan のパネルは織り目が正しい方向に走るようにレイアップし、テンプレートを取っており、フレックスはティップだけでなくフィン本体から生まれます。これによりボトムから、そしてターンを通しての走りと伸びが高まり、True Ames の Volan フィンは高いパフォーマンスのフレックス特性を体現する一本となっています

The practical note from hull riders is that the thicker Volan section runs stiffer than the standard glass, so this is the firmer, more planted version of the L-Flex.
Our take
On a displacement hull or speed-oriented mid-length this is the designed-for fin when you want drive and stability over spring, and it earns its keep in bigger, faster waves where the extra stiffness keeps it from washing out. If you want the springier feel out of the bottom turn that hull riders favor, go to the standard glass L-Flex; for a do-everything single, the Greenough 4A is the more universal pick.

The L-Flex is Greg Liddle's single fin template, drawn in 1968 to complement the modified displacement hulls he pioneered, with a slender outline and thin precision foil. This version is built by True Ames in Volan, a thicker section that runs stiffer than the standard glass build. Sizes run 7.5", 8.0", 8.5", 9.0" (and 9-W wide-base), 9.5" (and 9.5-W), and 10.0", with the W sizes adding base width for more drive. It suits displacement hulls and speed-oriented mid-lengths ridden from forward trim.
