このフィンについて
Skip Frye の 3.0" サイドバイト。幅があり寸詰まりのテンプレートで、ボードを手放しにすることなく噛みつきを足します。
Frye がこれを描いたのは、シングルフィンに少し助けが要る場面のためです。安定や伸び、ホールドを少し足すこと、それ以上のことはしません。寸詰まりで小さなテンプレートながら、その比率のわりにベース幅はしっかり取られています。Frye のサイドバイト二種のうち大きいほうで、存在をはっきり主張する一本です。面積は深さではなくベースに置かれていて、深さ 2.99"、ベース 3.70"、片側 7.91 sq in、ソリッドファイバーグラス製です。
どう感じられるか
浅いフィンの下に広いベースがあると、ホールドはさほど増やさずにドライブが得られます。これは Frye の考え方全般に通じるもので、フィンを減らし、ボード自身のレールラインに仕事をさせるという発想です。センターフィンの両側に足したときの変化は、確かに感じられるものの行き過ぎません。ボードはそれまでと同じように回り、ただ一拍長く粘るようになります。
どんな方に向くか
センターフィンがすでにほぼ決まっていて、プラグが二つ空いているシングルフィンのボードに。True Ames は Frye 自身の提案も伝えています。センターボックスには何も入れず、このペアだけで走らせて、フィンレスに近い状態でボードがどう動くか試してみる、というものです。

Frye's fin work is built around flow and trim, and these follow the same logic -- a touch more bite on rail when the wave stands up, while leaving the center fin to do the trimming and pivoting it was drawn to do.
Our take
Run these with a Frye-template center fin on an egg or glider when you want a little more hold for late drops and steeper sections without losing the glide, dropping your center fin a size. They are deliberately modest -- if you need strong rail grip on a heavier board in bigger surf, step up to a 3.7".
