The Details
Philip Castle airbrushed the poster for A Clockwork Orange in 1971 — Alex's knife, the eyeball cufflink, the Korova girl kneeling inside the triangle — and this shirt runs that exact art in metallic gold on black, "Stanley Kubrick's" riding above the title lettering. Castle's chrome-smooth airbrush work became the film's visual signature outside the film itself, and Kubrick brought him back sixteen years later to do the poster for Full Metal Jacket. The back carries a second piece of Alex iconography — full-length in bowler and cane, one made-up eye, over the bubbled title logo. The collar tag reads AllSport — a blank-maker's label, not a modern print-on-demand body. The strangest fact about Clockwork still sits offscreen: after copycat accusations and threats to his family, Kubrick himself had the film withdrawn from British release, and it stayed effectively unseeable in the country that made it until 2000, the year after he died. The poster art never went away.
