California Concrete: A Landscape of Skateparks, Amir Zaki's photographic survey of California skateparks shot empty, published by Merrell.

Amir Zaki photographed California's concrete skateparks with nobody in them, and the bowls, pools and snake runs read as sculpture and landscape rather than as sports venues. Merrell published it in 2019 as a 128-page hardback measuring 11.5 by 10 inches, with a foreword by Tony Hawk and an essay by architect Peter Zellner. Zaki shot each park many times on a motorised tripod head and stitched the frames into single images, which is why the parks look flattened and architectural rather than snapshotted.

Large-format photographs of skateparks across the state, empty and lit flat, printed at 11.5 by 10 inches over 128 pages. Tony Hawk writes the foreword; Peter Zellner's essay traces how these athletic landscapes evolved. No action photography and no riders: the book treats the concrete itself as the subject.
