The Fin
Barrett Miller’s ʻIʻiwi twin (say E-vee) — the performance template he pairs with his own wing swallow shortboards — in solid fiberglass, Futures compatible.
A pair of twin fins with a flat inside foil, drawn for speed and drive without giving up the loose, flowing feel twin-fin riders are after. Miller designed them alongside a specific board rather than as a general-purpose template, and the shape shows it.
How that reads
A flat inside foil is the standard twin arrangement: the flat face sits against the board, the outside is foiled, and the fin generates lift as water passes it. Drive and looseness pull against each other in a twin — more area and base gives one, less gives the other — and this template is drawn towards the performance end without going so far that the tail stops sliding when you ask it to.
Who it suits
Wing swallow shortboards and similar performance twins with Futures boxes, ridden in surf with a real face. It is not a glide-and-trim keel; it wants to be turned.

The ʻIʻiwi wants to snap and pivot rather than carve long arcs — it requires an active rider and rewards fast redirections. If you ride Miller's wing swallow or a similarly snappy swallow-tail shortboard twin setup, this is the obvious starting point: the shaper built the fin to match. It's not for midlengths.

The ʻIʻiwi is a twin fin developed by Barrett Miller alongside his wing swallow shortboards and produced by True Ames under their custom shaper program in solid fiberglass with a Futures-compatible base. It is sold in one size, 5.5 inches tall with a 4.81-inch base, and has a flat inside foil. The template is intended for shortboard twin setups, particularly pulled-in swallow-tail shapes, rather than mid-lengths.
