For one week in August 1995 the British singles chart was the national news: "Country House" against "Roll With It," Blur against Oasis, both released the same Monday on purpose. Blur took the No. 1 — 274,000 copies to 216,000 — and three weeks later The Great Escape landed to collect the winnings. Its sleeve, by Stylorouge, the studio behind Blur's whole mid-90s run of covers, is the escape fantasy with the joke left showing: two men in a speedboat flat-out on open blue water, a giant bare leg swinging into the frame — paradise, revealed as an advert. The front of this shirt is that sleeve printed large; the back is the logos alone, fat orange blur over blue Great Escape lettering. The collar tag reads Sof Tee by Tee Jays, an American blank, and the seams are single stitch. Blur won the battle and Oasis famously won the war — Morning Glory outsold this record many times over — which hands the speedboat a second joke it never intended.
