The Fin
The Boomerang is a thruster set drawn by Jeff Grennan out of San Diego's glider and mid-length scene — minimal area, heavy rake, built for trim speed and glide.
Sold as a set of three in solid fiberglass, Futures compatible, in blue, smoke, yellow or green. The template is raked well back and carries little area for a thruster set, which is a deliberate trade: less fin in the water, less resistance, and a board that keeps running down the line instead of being held back by its own fins. It came out of the San Diego glider and mid-length culture, spearheaded and designed by local native Jeff Grennan.
How that reads
Rake pushes the fin's area back behind the plug, so a turn draws out long and the board holds its speed through it instead of pivoting and scrubbing it off. Taking area out at the same time leaves less to drag through the water: trim speed goes up and the board keeps gliding where a fuller set would bog it down. What this outline will not do is hold hard in the pocket or snap off the top. It wants to be surfed in long lines.
Who it suits
Gliders, mid-lengths and longer boards with three plugs, in surf worth trimming across. Surfers chasing down-the-line speed and flow rather than tight vertical surfing — and anyone who has found that a standard thruster set makes a big board feel stuck to the water. Skip Frye and Bob Mitsven are among those who have spoken for it.

Our take
Run the Boomerang on a glider or mid-length when you want trim speed and long flowing lines from a thruster setup — it draws speed out of trim instead of asking you to pump for it. If you want a cluster that turns tight and breaks loose off the top, this is the wrong tool. It is the fin for the rider who measures a wave by how far they can run it.

The Boomerang Tri is a three-fin thruster set made by True Ames in solid fiberglass with Futures-compatible bases.
