A yellow smiley with four eyes and blood running from a hole in its forehead, on sun-faded black cotton β that's the whole front, and the joke has a pedigree. The wounded smiley is an old tee gag: genuine 80s novelty shirts did the bullet-hole grin decades before Watchmen's bloodied badge made it literary. This one is a modern telling. The neck label reads "saint" in lowercase with a red letter i β the mark of Saint Michael, the brand READYMADE founder Yuta Hosokawa started with LA artist Cali Thornhill DeWitt in 2020, whose entire method is building new shirts that read as thirty years old: cracked ink, sun-faded washes, gags like this one. eBay currently carries a Saint Michael bullet-hole-smiley tee matching this description, and the brand trades seriously β a Saint Michael 666% tee sold for $333 on Grailed. The four eyes go unexplained. On this shirt, that feels correct.
