Jello Biafra wanted a logo simple enough that kids could spray-paint it on walls, and Winston Smith gave him one built from four toothpicks β pushed around a tabletop until they became a D and K sharing a spine. That was early 1980, the mark debuting alongside Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, and it worked exactly as designed: the DK monogram has spent four decades being carved into school desks and sprayed under bridges, punk's most graffiti-able trademark. This is the logo at full chest scale β white bevel-cut bars over the red disc β with a quietly loaded credit line beneath: Β© Decay Music, the band's own company, "under license to Brockum," the arena-merch machine of the era. Hardcore's least commercial band routed through the industry's biggest pipeline; the members would spend the late 90s in court with each other over exactly this kind of commerce. The logo out-survived the band, the label deal, and the lawsuits β four toothpicks, still load-bearing.
