The canard sheds a vortex over the main fin, which lets the main fin hold at a steeper angle than it otherwise would. Canards are sold as a pair; the rear fins come separately or in the twinzer sets.

The DST canard is the smaller, lower-profile kind: 2.43" deep on a 2.47" base. It is aimed at adding drive out of a turn rather than outright hold — the RDM canard is the one to pick if hold is what you are after.
