The Fin
Derrick Disney's RDM Twinzer — a four-fin set of two raked rears with a small canard ahead of each, drawn as his primary set-up for the Midzr, Roe and Egg.
Sold as a set of four in solid fiberglass, in ivory, on bases that take FCS or Futures. The rears are stout: a wide base running into a fuller drop tip, foiled 70/30. Ahead of each one sits a low-profile double-foiled canard with a wide base and curves borrowed from a Gephart 2 keel. The canards come in a choice of angles so the pair can be set to the roughly 13° of cant the RDM formula is built around.
How that reads
A twinzer feeds the small forward fin's flow onto the larger fin behind it, which lets the rear carry more rake than it otherwise could without paying for it in drag. So the rear does the driving while the canard keeps it fed and settled, and the board comes round smoothly instead of pivoting sharply. Cant is doing real work here: the angle chosen for the canard sets how hard the pair loads up as the board goes on rail.
Who it suits
Twinzer-drilled boards — Derrick Disney's Midzr, Roe and Egg models first of all, and eggs and mid-lengths cut for four plugs generally. Surfers who like what a twin does down the line but want more smoothness and more drive through the turn than two fins on their own will give them.
