The Details
Read the small print and this stops being an ordinary E.T. shirt: the credits are in Polish — "Reżyseria: Steven Spielberg," "W rolach głównych: Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote & Henry Thomas." The front is Jakub Erol's 1984 Polish release poster: a hand-painted E.T. raising one glowing finger out of a dense cosmic field, one of the thousand-plus posters Erol made inside the Polish poster school, where Western films arrived late and were reimagined by fine artists, not marketing departments. The back switches continents to the Hollywood campaign — the finger-touch from John Alvin's US one-sheet, a pose borrowed from Michelangelo's Creation of Adam, stacked into a montage with the flying bicycle across the moon and the kids' faces. Front and back are two Cold War poster industries arguing over the same alien. Erol's 1984 printing circulates through poster galleries in its own right; on cotton, this is the deep cut.
