The Details
"You are already dead" entered the meme bloodstream thirty years after Buronson and Tetsuo Hara wrote it, which tells you how far ahead of its moment Fist of the North Star was. Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1983 to '88, it set a martial artist named Kenshiro loose in a nuclear wasteland to burst the skulls of men who deserved it, and marked his chest with seven scars in the Big Dipper's shape so you'd always know him โ they're right there on the front of this print, his torso bare between columns of pink kanji, a giant blue face glowering over his shoulder. The back goes full theatrical poster: a helmeted colossus at the top, an open palm reaching out of the composition, the series logo โ ๅๆใฎๆณ โ stamped in arcade pink, and not a word of English anywhere on the shirt. Four decades on, the catchphrase outruns its source; half the internet can say omae wa mou shindeiru without knowing whose chest the Dipper sits on. This one is for the half that knows.
