The Details
Halfway down the date list on the back, between Atlanta and Miami, sits 8-14 Saugerties, NY — Woodstock '94, the mud fight, the set that turned Dookie from a hit record into a national event in front of a few hundred thousand people. The front is Richie Bucher's album cover: Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, drawn by an East Bay punk-scene artist the band chose on purpose, catching a mushroom cloud of exactly what the title promises. The full design is the 1994 Dookie Tour shirt — cover art forward, and on the back the whole second half of '94, July 23 in Cleveland through December 5 in New York, the itinerary of the year punk broke for the second time. Originals of this tour design list between roughly $180 and $450 on eBay, with dealers calling $200 typical money. Dookie went on to diamond certification; the tour shirt is the version of the story with dates on it.
