Designer Bio: Alter's design legacy is less about a single signature fin and more about building the modern platform fins evolved on: he helped drive the shift to lighter, faster, more responsive foam-and-fiberglass boards and scaled surfboard production. In 1958, working with Gordon "Grubby" Clark, Alter pioneered polyurethane foam blanks and fiberglass construction.
