The Fin
The Hobie Classic is a timeless template that is well suited for a wide range of surf craft. Sporting a medium base, and full tip area, combined with generous rake, the Classic will provide fluid turnability alongside ample stability. The Classic name is well deserved for this versatile and enduring design. Whether you ride in a mid-length, speed shape, 2+1 or log, the Classic will provide performance and predictability via the four size offerings. Hobie Alter was a legendary surfer, shaper, and businessman who grew up alongside the sport of surfing. He began shaping balsa wood boards as a teenager in 1950, opened up Hobie Surfboards – Southern California’s first surf shop in 1954, and in 1958 he and his buddy Gordon Clark invented the polyurethane foam surfboard. Between his innovations and timeless designs, Alter left behind a real legacy in the surfboard industry. What people say
The medium base and full tip give stability and hold, while the generous rake draws the turn out and keeps it fluid rather than pivoty -- a deliberately versatile classic template.
One classic fin that trims, noserides, and still draws a real turn: run the 9" or 10" as a single on a log, or the 7" or 8" as a 2+1 center with sidebites. If maximum nose time is your only goal, a dedicated pivot fin like the Heritage holds the tail down better.
More About This Fin
The Hobie Classic is a True Ames longboard fin in solid fiberglass with a gloss finish, made in four sizes: 7", 8", 9.0", and 10.0". The template pairs a medium base with a full tip and generous rake. The 9" and 10" sizes run as single fins on logs, while the 7" and 8" sizes work as 2+1 center fins paired with small sidebites.
