Gunma 55, plate 13-954 β whoever drew this got Takumi's license plate exactly right, and that kind of care is the tell on Initial D prints worth keeping. The car wearing it is the heart of the whole franchise: an ordinary mid-80s Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86, driven down Mount Akina every morning before dawn by a teenager delivering tofu for his father, who learned car control so young he didn't know it was a skill. Shuichi Shigeno's manga made that hand-me-down coupe the most famous underdog in car culture. The front stacks three of the cast in crisp cel style over the Eight-Six and the yellow Mazda RX-7 FD that Keisuke Takahashi brings to the mountain; the back lines up five faces in blue panels above a downhill start, all of it under the ι ζεD logo with its furigana spelling out "Initial." A cast poster on black cotton, drawn by someone who checked the plates.
