The Details
The signs are the whole joke. Isla Nublar is a theme park that never opened, and every prop in it is a warning: DANGER, HIGH VOLTAGE on the perimeter fences, AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY on the doors nobody should have opened, CAUTION painted across gates that did not hold. This shirt takes that signage and tiles it edge to edge — yellow, red and black hazard placards stacked and overlapping in an all-over print — with the red-and-yellow Jurassic Park T-rex logo sitting in the middle of the chest like the one thing in the park that was built to be looked at. Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film was the biggest movie in the world that summer and one of the biggest licensing programmes ever run, which is why the logo on the chest is instantly legible and why the signage collage around it reads as a bootlegger’s idea: take the park’s own vocabulary of danger and make it the pattern.
