The Fin
Justin Quintal's Pivot — an upright longboard fin with a full tip, one size at 9.75", built to noseride and still carve.
Solid fiberglass in black white, on a 50/50 foil. Upright with moderate rake and plenty of area kept out at the tip: that is the traditional noseriding recipe, worked into something that still comes around when the rail is buried. True Ames drew it with Quintal, and it reads as an old-school template with modern turning built in. From anywhere on the board it will do what is asked of it — deep carves off the tail, a settled platform under the nose.
How that reads
An upright outline puts area under the board rather than behind it, so the turn happens around the fin: the tail plants, and the board pivots in a short radius instead of drawing itself out. The full tip is the noseriding half of the design — deep area is what keeps hold when weight goes forward. Rake is moderate rather than absent, so it still projects a line rather than only turning on the spot.
Who it suits
Logs ridden traditionally but surfed properly: noseriding first, with carving that does not have to be gentle. A rider who wants more release at the end of the turn should look at a cutaway outline, which trades some of this hold for a shorter radius.

Put it on an all-around log when you want one fin that noserides and carves without committing to either extreme. If you want a looser, more aggressive turning fin, go to the Quintal Cutty; if your priority is maximum planted nose hold, the Heritage is the call.
