The Fin
Kevin Connelly’s KC Tri — the all-round thruster set for middle-weight surfers, Futures compatible, in Hexcore.
A three-fin set built around smooth, powerful turns rather than sharp pivot, with enough tip flex to let the fin unload at the end of an arc. This is the Hexcore version, which trims weight against solid glass while keeping the same template. The template runs 4.67" deep on a 4.56" base, 15.71 sq in of area.
How that reads
Tip flex is what separates this set from a stiff thruster: the tip gives a little under load and springs back as you come out of the turn, which is why cutbacks come round with less effort than the template alone would suggest. The body stays firm, so drive and hold are not traded away to get it.
Who it suits
Shortboards ridden by surfers in the middle of the weight range, in everyday surf through to solid waves. It is a one-set-for-most-days choice rather than a specialist template for one kind of wave.

Our take
The thruster set for a middle-weight, all-around surfer who wants drive and hold through a carve, with the Hexcore build keeping it light and lively underfoot. It is not the set for a skatey, hyper-loose feel -- a release-oriented quad does that job.
More About This Fin
The KC Tri is a True Ames thruster set, here in Hexcore construction with Futures-compatible bases, sold as a three-fin set. Hexcore wraps a lightweight core to shed weight versus solid fiberglass while keeping the flex pattern responsive. The template is a medium thruster outline with moderate rake, a solid base, and notable tip flex, and the same template is also offered in solid fiberglass. It is sized for middle-weight surfers on shortboards and performance hybrids.
