The Fin
Ryan Lovelace's FM canards — small forward fins to run ahead of a twinzer's rear fins, FCS compatible, flat inside foil and no cant.
Solid fiberglass in black. Canards are the front half of a twinzer: small fins set forward of the rears and out towards the rail, adding bite and feeding the main fin without adding a full fin's worth of drag. Lovelace drew these to pair with his FM twinzer rear fin, on a template of their own rather than a shrunken side bite. They are not fussy about placement either — the same pair works in a range of combinations across different shapes and board sizes.
How that reads
A fin this small does not steer the board. Set outboard and ahead of the rear fin, it holds the front of the rail line and cleans up the water arriving behind it, which is what lets a twinzer drive like a quad while still feeling like a twin. A flat inside foil and no cant keep the pair direct rather than soft: they bite as the rail goes down and stay out of the way in trim.
Who it suits
Twinzers first, and after that any twin or fish with the plugs to experiment. Run with the FM rears they are doing the job they were drawn for; in other combinations they are a small, quick way to add bite to a board without changing its character.

Our take
Buy these only if you are running the Lovelace FM Twinzer rear fins and want extra grip and hold without losing the twin character — if you do not have FM rears in the board, leave them in the drawer. For any other board, the Lovelace Side Bites are the supporting-role 2+1 set and the standard Lovelace Twin covers the clean two-fin option.
More About This Fin
The Lovelace FM Canards are small, single-foiled leading fins with a flat inside face, made in solid fiberglass with FCS-compatible bases. Ryan Lovelace designed them to mount forward and outboard of the Lovelace FM Twinzer rear fins on his FM mid-length, which places its boxes more than two inches off the rail and nearly parallel. They are canards rather than side bites and are not intended as stand-alone fins or for use near a center box.
