A twinzer runs four fins, but not as a quad. Each main fin gets a small nub in front of it and closer to the rail; the nub sheds a vortex over the main fin, which lets the main fin hold at a steeper angle than it otherwise would. Here the fronts are 1.63" deep on a 3.33" base, 3.70 sq in, single-foiled with a flat inside; the rears are the FM Twin itself, 5.66" deep on a 5.84" base, 22.46 sq in, with the double 50/50 foil.
Lovelace drew the set for his FM boards, where the fins sit over 2" off the rail on mid-lengths and run nearly parallel β a placement he built the double foil around, and one he intended to be ridden either with the leading fins or without them. The rear pair carries considerably more area than an average twin, which is where the speed, drive and heavy rail carves come from; the leading nubs are what let you push that rail harder before the tail lets go.
Lovelace's own advice: an FM if you have one, otherwise mid-length twins, larger surfers on 6'-range twins, or anyone who likes to weight the rail and load up drive. On a small board under a light rider it is more fin than the shape will use.

It holds through carves like a quad but keeps the freedom and squirt of a twin -- somewhere between the two, with more bite than a plain twin and less track than a locked-in quad.
This is the matched set for an FM or a similar off-the-rail, near-parallel mid-length twin, where it draws long, connected, arcing carves with real hold. It pays back juicier waves more than small mush, and if your boxes are in a conventional twin position, a standard twin set will sit better.
The Lovelace FM Twinzer is a four-fin set Ryan Lovelace designed for his FM mid-length: a pair of double-foiled rear twins plus a pair of small single-foiled front canards with flat inside faces, made by True Ames in solid fiberglass with Futures-compatible trailers and FCS-compatible leaders. The template was drawn for the FM's box placement, more than two inches off the rail on mid-lengths and close to parallel, with the canards seated forward and outboard of the twins.
