Ryan Lovelace's side bites — a small, clustered pair for 2+1 setups where the centre fin is meant to do the work.
Solid fiberglass in a raw sanded finish, Futures compatible, in royal blue and smoke. Lovelace drew this pair for the 2+1s he likes — a slightly more parallel layout, or a board that is deliberately under-finned — and set them to sit clustered rather than spread the way a classic performance 2+1 does. The template is down-the-line driven and small for the job on purpose: the centre fin keeps the general feel of the board, and these add a little extra bite behind it.
How that reads
Side fins this size change how a board holds without changing what it is. Clustered in tighter, they engage later in the turn and leave the centre fin to set the line, so a longer board keeps its glide instead of being dragged into a shortboard's arc. The cant tips them off the vertical, which brings them in as the rail goes down and keeps them quiet in trim, and the flat inside foil keeps that engagement crisp.
Who it suits
Longer boards, minigliders and any 2+1 that already turns the way it should but wants a bit more hold in the tail. Also the smaller performance option for a board that felt over-finned with a full-size set in the rails.
