Solid fiberglass, in smoke and royal blue, in five heights from 7" up to 9.0", on a 50/50 foil. Lovelace based it on his v.Bowls fin, aimed at a lighter approach: "The Lizzy fin has plenty of base, but a narrow and flexy tip. Suited well for mini gliders and all kinds of single fins... It is less drive and power-hungry than the beefy v.Bowls fin, and equally happy to be heavily pressured as it is to be grooved with ease." Plenty of base, substantial rake, and a tip narrow enough to bend.
The base is the drive: a wide root loads off the bottom and projects, which is what a heavier mid-length needs to get moving. The drop tip is the release valve β narrow and flexible, it gives under pressure instead of locking the board into the arc the outline would otherwise draw. Rake stretches the turn out. Push hard and it holds; back off and it grooves along in trim without asking for anything.
Mid-lengths, mini gliders and longboards, as a single fin or as the centre of a 2+1. It suits a surfer who wants drive and hold without the stiff, planted feel of a heavy noserider template β and anyone who found the v.Bowls more fin than the board needed.
He based the ThickLizzy on his v.Bowls template but drew it for a lighter touch β less drive-and-power-hungry than the beefy v.Bowls, rewarding being grooved easily as much as being stomped.
Plenty of base feeding a narrow, flexy tip, so it drives down the line but releases cleanly out of bottom turns.
Pick it for a mid-length or mini glider when you want trim speed with a flexy, forgiving release β it grooves easily in everyday surf but comes alive when you stand on it. If your board feels dead and wants more push, go to the v.Bowls; if you want a looser tail-pivot feel, the McCallum Single.
The ThickLizzy is Ryan Lovelace's mid-length single fin, made by True Ames and built around his Thick Lizzy board model. The template derives from his v.Bowls design, with a wide base and a thin, flexible tip. It comes in 7", 7.5", 8", 8.5", and 9" sizes and works as a pure single fin or as the center of a 2+1 setup, pairing with the Lovelace Side Runners or Side Bites.
