The Fin

Mick Mackie's quad, built out of keels: long bases for drive that pull quickly into a narrow tip so the set still comes around.

Four fins with keel outlines. The fronts run a 6.988" base at 4.685" of depth; the rears a 5.413" base at only 3.05". The template draws heavily on Mackie's Sidecut Keel, with a bit more rake added for extra hold and squirt. Solid fiberglass, FCS or Futures compatible — choose at checkout, in clear or yellow.

How that reads

Base length is where drive comes from, so bases this long make speed the moment the board is on rail. What usually comes with them is a set that only wants to go straight, which is why Mackie pulls the outline in quickly to a narrow tip — the tip is the part that releases. The result drives off the bottom like a keel and still lets the tail go at the top of the turn.

Who it suits
