The Fin

A quad set by Manny Caro of Mandala Custom Shapes, with the fronts and rears sized to work with each other rather than compete.

Four fins in solid fiberglass with a matte finish, FCS or Futures, in clear and smoke. The fronts run 4.55" deep on a 4.49" base; the rears are smaller, 3.66" on a 3.70" base, with 80/20 foils. That relationship is what Caro was after: a rear fin sized to support the front rather than fight it. It is why this set fits the widest range of boards and riders in the Mandala line.

How that reads

The fronts carry the load through a turn while the rears add hold and push without the drag of a second full-size fin, and the 80/20 foil on the rears keeps them working rather than dragging. Speed carries through the flat sections and the set still bites once the board is on rail. It is balanced rather than pushed in a direction, so it does not force a board towards either release or hold.

Who it suits

Quad boards across a range of sizes, and riders who want one set that can move between more than one board. A good default quad rather than a specialist one. Choose the base at checkout, since the same template is offered in FCS and in Futures.
