The Details
The fine print covering the back of this shirt is a real physics paper. "Guidelines to Antigravity" — Robert L. Forward, 1963: a Hughes Aircraft physicist, later a hard sci-fi novelist, working out with a straight face how rotating masses could be arranged to cancel gravity. The sections silk-screened across the shoulders ("Effect of Rotating Masses on Moving Bodies," "Effect of Accelerated Masses on Stationary Bodies") and the figure captions — the "non-Newtonian component of acceleration on a test body below the center of a rotating massive ring" — come straight from its pages, equations included. The front promotes the paper's machinery to logo: a particle-cloud torus ringed by field-line arrows, the letters M-S-F-T-S riding the orbits. MSFTS Rep is Jaden Smith's label and art collective — staging collab pop-ups by 2013 — and this is about the most MSFTS object possible: crystal-shop cosmology backed by an actual citation, wearable proof that the distance between teen mysticism and respectable physics is sometimes one typeface.
