The Details
For two decades the story was that Pantera found a man willing to take a punch for ten dollars a hit, and that the Vulgar Display of Power cover caught one of dozens. The photographer, Brad Guice, eventually ruined the legend: the face belongs to Sean Cross, a professional model with the Ford agency, and he was never punched — he was shoved, hard, take after take, while strobes, tungsten film and a slow shutter smeared the fist into that blur. It says something that the truth stayed buried so long: the 1992 record hit hard enough that nobody questioned the cover doing the same. This print files both eras of the band into one chest piece — the punch below, and above it the white Cowboys From Hell wordmark off the 1990 album that turned a Texas club act into metal's new standard. The legend was fake. The image never needed it.
