The Fin
Rich Pavel’s canards, FCS compatible solid fiberglass in smoke — the lead fins of the Pavel twinzer, sold as a pair.
A twinzer runs four fins, but not as a quad: each main fin gets a small canard set just ahead of and outside it. The canard sheds a vortex over the main fin, which lets the main fin hold at a steeper angle than it otherwise would. Canards are sold as a pair; the rear fins come separately or in the twinzer sets.

The Pavel canards are set relatively upright, which favours hold over release — the canard to pick if the reason you want a twinzer is that your twin lets go too early. 2.91" deep on a 2.70" base, in the same three cant angles as the rest of the range.

Paired with twin mains, the canards add tight pivoting turns, more bite, and a high degree of sensitivity — a Twinzer's bite without the drag of a full quad.
Our take
Use these as the front pair on a dedicated Twinzer with the rear fins it was built around, where you want more bite and sensitivity than a plain twin. Do not drop them into random side-bite boxes hoping for improvement — they are specific to Twinzer placement, and if your board is a straight twin that needs more hold, a McCallum Twin or a nubster-style trailer is the better route.
More About This Fin
The Pavel Canards are small, upright front fins for a Twinzer setup, designed by Rich Pavel and made by True Ames in solid fiberglass with FCS-compatible bases. They have a flat inside foil and run forward of and outboard of a twin's main fins, where they break water tension ahead of the trailing fin. They are not a standalone setup and require a board built with canard boxes.
