The Fin

A high-area twin pair with George Greenough's PT-1 behind it — three fins, where the trailer twists instead of sitting still.

True Ames paired a solid fiberglass twin template — 5.62" deep on a 5.00" base, 20.47 sq in — with the PT-1, the Greenough Power Trailer they also sell on its own. The PT-1 is 4.75" deep on a 2.70" base, 12.95 sq in, and it is not made the same way as the twins: it is a proprietary blend of unidirectional epoxy laminate produced under heat and high pressure.

How that reads

The twins supply the area and rake that a bigger or more powerful surfer needs for drive, and the trailer supplies what a stiff fin cannot. The laminate gives the PT-1 a twisting ability along with strength and recovery, so loaded through a turn it stores energy and springs back, and unweighted it lets the tail go. The set as a whole reads as stability and projection with a loose, free, energised feeling behind it.

Twin or twin-plus-trailer
