It took an Australian magazine to name a Japanese monster: Wheels put the new Skyline GT-R on its July 1989 cover as "Nissan's new Godzilla," and the nickname outlived the car, the magazine's era, and most of the rivals the car humiliated. The R32 earned it — in Japan's Group A touring-car championship the GT-R won all 29 races it entered from 1990 through 1993, and in Australia it took Bathurst in 1991 and 1992, at which point Godzilla stopped being a joke about size and became a complaint. This shirt is the spec-sheet genre doing what it does: a gunmetal R32 photo-printed under giant letters, a dense paragraph beneath reciting the catechism — May 1989, the RB26 twin-turbo straight-six, the electronically controlled all-wheel drive — for anyone standing close enough to read your chest. The R32 is a big part of why "JDM" means anything in America: forbidden here for 25 years, then imported the day it wasn't.
