Ryan Burch's all-round twin: a hybrid template that splits the difference between speed, drive and freedom rather than committing to one.
This is the neutral twin in Burch's range. It carries a trustworthy amount of base for projection down the line and a refined tip that keeps the board lively through transitions, in solid fiberglass with a flat inside foil. Nothing about it is extreme, which is the design brief.
Base is where drive comes from, tip area is where hold comes from, and how much of each a fin carries is what decides its character. This template takes a middle amount of both, so it drives without locking in and turns without feeling slippery. In practice that means it works from playful waist-high surf through to punchier, more powerful waves without a change of fin.
Anyone buying one twin set rather than three β a first twin, or the set that stays in the board when the forecast is unknown. If you already know what you want the board to do, the raked and the large templates each do one of those things better.
Want more projection down the line and more flex? The True Ames Ryan Burch Rakey Twin Volan (Futures). Want more area under a bigger board or a heavier rider? The Ryan Burch Large Twin Fiberglass (Futures).
These fins are zippy, and fast, and free-feeling and will really get your board up to speed quickly.
The template bridges a more upright high-aspect twin and a traditional larger profile keel, drawing the best from both.
Reach for the Burch Twin when you want one twin set that covers small zippy days and steeper carving days both β it gets a fish or twin up to speed quickly and surfs rail-to-rail, handling tight pocket turns and longer carves. If your board has a wide tail and wants more area and hold, step up to the Burch Large Twin; for committed down-the-line keel drive, the McCallum Keel is the other direction.
The Ryan Burch Twin is a twin-fin set designed by Ryan Burch and made by True Ames in Futures-compatible solid fiberglass, with a flat inside foil and a medium base. The template sits between an upright high-aspect twin and a larger traditional keel, refined over years of Burch's own board experimentation and travel. It is intended for fish and twin-fin shortboards.
