Workers at the pressing plant refused to touch it: Jamie Reid's sleeve for "God Save the Queen" was scandalous enough in May 1977 that the record nearly didn't get made, timed as it was to detonate during the Silver Jubilee. Reid's move was pure ransom note — the Queen's eyes barred by GOD SAVE THE QUEEN, her mouth gagged with SEX PISTOLS — and his raw material makes it better: the portrait is routinely misattributed to Cecil Beaton, but it's Peter Grugeon's official Jubilee photograph. Reid defaced the palace's own press kit. The BBC banned the single and it hit No. 2 in Jubilee week anyway, trailing accusations that the chart had been fiddled to keep it off the top. This print gives the artwork the full-shirt treatment: the blue oval portrait floating on a field of the song's lyrics scrawled edge to edge in orange — no future, don't be told what you want, there is no future in England's dreaming. Cotton has carried this image since 1977; the lyrics-all-over version is the 90s way of carrying it.
