The Details
"Light Up the Darkness" is the one Bob Marley quote Marley never said. The line belongs to Will Smith's character in I Am Legend (2007), explaining Marley to a stranger: "The people who are trying to make this world worse are not taking a day off. How can I? Light up the darkness." The scene is anchored in something true — gunmen shot Marley two days before the 1976 Smile Jamaica concert and played it anyway — and the internet has credited him with the movie's line ever since. This design quilts the real and the rumored together: "My richness is Life, forever," which he actually said when a 60 Minutes interviewer asked if he was rich; "Love the life you live," which comes with no receipt; the Lion of Judah; KING OF REGGAE; all of it under a rasta-gradient Stüssy signature. Stüssy's actual Marley collabs — 2018 and 2021, made with the family — look nothing like this. This is the fantasy-collab bootleg lane, and since its title line is a 2007 screenplay, the design can be no older.
