The Fin

The Roots Twin is Shawn Stussy's twin-fin set for True Ames — a balanced, medium-rake template for performance twins.

A twin set in solid fiberglass, offered for FCS or Futures boxes and in two colours. The outline carries a medium amount of rake and a flat inside foil, and it sits a little smaller than the True Ames twin, so the tail stays quicker to turn. The glass is stiff enough to hold a line under load but still springs back through flex, which is where the control off the bottom and the release off the top both come from.

How that reads

Medium rake puts the tip far enough back to draw a long arc without gluing the board to it: drive off the bottom, then a turn that finishes rather than stalls. The flat inside foil leaves the outside face doing the lifting, which is the standard twin feel — fast down the line, loose at the tail. Less area than a full keel means less hold in a steep section and more freedom in the turn.

Who it suits

Performance-minded twins and fishes with a drawn-in modern outline rather than a wide keel fish — boards ridden off the tail as much as along the trim line.
